Renewing items online is easy and quick. Simply follow the steps below:

  1. Logon to your "My Library Record" at the Library Homepage;
  2. Click "LOANS";
  3. Click “RENEW ALL” to renew all checked out items.
    You may also choose to click on “RENEW” button of the item to be renewed (no “RENEW” button will be shown when renewal is not applicable, e.g. recalled, etc.) but as there is no limit on the number of renewals within the maximum loan period, “RENEW ALL” will be a quicker option for you.

Except for items that are on short loans (e.g. Course Reserve, Journals and laptop etc.) or have been recalled/requested by other library users, all loaned materials can be renewed anytime until the maximum loan period is reached. The new due date is calculated from the date of renewal.

Maximum loan period = Initial loan period x 6

Examples:

  • Undergraduate students:  30 days x 6 = 180 days
  • Postgraduate students: 60 days x 6 = 360 days
  • Teaching staff (Terms A): 120 days x 6 = 720 days

Please note once a recalled item is overdue all items under a user’s account will not be able to be renewed until the recalled item is returned. For loan privileges of different user types, please visit: http://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/en/use/borrowing/borrow

Therefore, instead of renewing items one at a time, you may simply click on “RENEW ALL” to renew all the items in "My Library Record". For each successful renewal, the word “RENEWED” will appear together with the new due date. In case not all renewals are successful, a message "Only some loans have been successfully renewed" will appear. For more information on renewal, please visit: http://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/en/use/borrowing/renew.
