Maximum loan period is the longest period that an item may be borrowed by a user before it must be returned to the Library. Except for HKALL / ILL /non-renewable items or items that are being recalled or requested by other library users, loans will be automatically renewed three days prior to the due date.

The length of the maximum loan period depends on the materials type of the items that you have borrowed. For example:

  • CUHK items with a loan period of 30 days or more: Unlimited automatic renewals unless the item concerned is being requested or recalled by another user.
  • All loans with a loan period of 14 days or less: Automatically renewed up to the maximum loan period unless the item concerned is being requested or recalled by another user.

You may check the maximum loan period of different material types at the below links:

Please note once a recalled item is overdue all items under a user's account will not be able to be renewed until the recalled item is returned.
